I am editing my reel on FCP 7.0 and have had a lot of problems making al the different footage work on the same sequence. I have some Flip Mino HD footage on the sequence that has a noticeable stuttering problem. I have exported as a Quicktime movie hoping it was just a playback issue, but it was not. I have tried numerous different codecs on my sequence settings (PRO RES, H.264, HDTV 720), and nothing is working. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

I would do the conversion in Compressor as oppose to Final Cut doing the conversion.

Are you creating Quicktime Movies as a stand alone MOV or are you using Quicktime Conversion? ? That also makes a difference.

And to even check more … if you load the footage alone on it’s on sequence with the codec set to read it, does it stutter? Because if it does you might have an issue with the footage it self.

    Good luck

    Thanks Raymond,

I have been doing a stand alone MOV and not Quicktime Conversion. I have also put the footage on its own sequence, and it didn’t stutter. I will try the Compressor option though. Thanks

Download MPEG Streamclip and run your footage through that to get a ProRes video file that you can actually edit with.

Are you running one monitor or two? I had stuttering as well running dual monitors. Unplugged one and stuttering went away. Now waiting for new graphics card.

[Patrick Kondelis] “I have some Flip Mino HD footage on the sequence that has a noticeable stuttering problem”

The Flip shoots h.264 and that is NOT a proper editing codec. It needs to be converted to a proper editing codec.

[Patrick Kondelis] “I have exported as a Quicktime movie hoping it was just a playback issue, but it was not”

Saying you exported as a QuickTime really tells us NOTHING. QuickTime is a wrapper that can contain NUMEROUS different codecs. What settings did you use to export?

[Patrick Kondelis] “I have tried numerous different codecs on my sequence settings (PRO RES, H.264, HDTV 720)”

h.264, is again NOT an editing codec and can actually cause playback problems. HDTV 720 is also not a codec.

Use compressor to convert theFlip Video to ProRes and then use the easy setups in FCP and choose ProRes and then create a new project.
