  Real 4:3 to 16:9

  I’ve got a timelapse video of 720 x 576. This is it’s real dimensions as the digital stills camera is 4:3 format.

  All i want to do is crop 100 pixels from the top, 71 pixels from the bottom to make a 16:9 (720 x 405) video file. The top and bottom is not important to keep.

  My 4:3 input file is in the correct format and the sequence is 16:9 anamorphic.

  When i do this in Final Cut Pro using percentages and crop option – it creates black bars. When i blow it up you lose quality (obviously).

  Is there a simple way of cropping without blowing the sequence up??

  Thanks for the response. Thing is i have 17 videos in 4:3 720×576 format – 18 months worth!

  The original photos – all 50,000 images, do exist as a good size (over 2500 pixels wide). But you can see why i dont’t want to re-do all the sequences. As a test i know i can set up a HD 1080 project, bring in the images as 4:3 and blow up on the 16:9 sequence, exporting as 720×405 will look fine but the time will be far too long.

  Anyone know a good video crop tool??

  Sure … Compressor is a fine video crop tool. Check the “Geometry” pane.
