Jittery, Vibrating footage from SmoothCam
I shot some footage with a home-made stabilizer which worked, but there was still a bit too much camera shake for my taste. I applied the SmoothCam filter and it looks great in preview. However, when I output to a DVD, any footage with SmoothCam has an awful vibration effect. It looks like some cheap “earthquake” effect.
The footage is 60i, and the surrounding footage is 24p in a 60i wrapper. Maybe this is part of the problem? It looks fine without SmoothCam, so maybe not.
Has anyone ever seen this? Know how to fix it?

It may be a field dominance issue. You wouldn’t notice that if you monitor with your computer monitor. But, when you play it on an interlaced monitor you’d see the result.

That seems very likely to be the issue, however all the footage is upper field, as is the sequence. I did a test output DVD with the same clip; one with SmoothCam and then the same clip without. Even living in its own sequence with no other footage, the SmootCam’d clip vibrates on an interlaced monitor.

I agree with John’s guess–something has flipped your field order. Try a shift fields filter (Effects/Video/Shift Fields) to see if that fixes it. Then try to track down why the shift happened.
