  aspect ratio nightmare

  I am having some pretty extreme issues with aspect ratios. Can someone tell me why DV has a different aspect ratio than regular NTSC and how do you deal with this when making videos for TV with a DV cam? i.e. 3:2 vs 4:3. — 720×480 640×480 — What is the meaning of this?

  Furthermore, does DV have a special aspect ratio for 16:9?

  Because DV works with a different pixel aspect ratio. This is really basic stuff and is readily available with a web search. NTSC is not 640×480 BTW. It’s 720×486 and uses the same pixel aspect as DV. Yes, anamorphic uses a different aspect aspect ratio as well.

  Hi Steve,
  Don’t get mixed up with the “3×2”.
  As Tom say, you have two sizes: 720×486 and 720×480.
  “3×2” is just to call the 720×480 size.
  720 divided by 480 = 3/2

  Those 720×486 or 720×480 pixels can be 4×3 or Anamorphic (16×9).
  3×2 is noting related with the pixels aspect.
  I think that this term just create confusion.
