    Is anybody else having Kernal panics after upgrading to FCP 7 and Snow Leopard?

    I take care of four edit stations and I have one that just won’t work. I’ve spent 3 weeks with Applecare trying to fix the problem. I’ve had kernal panics inside FCP…on boot up…and the latest is inside Compressor with FCP in the background. Error report keeps saying;

    panic(cpu 0 caller 0x1086e8b): “Uncorrectable Fbd memory error detected. FERR_NF = 0x00000020 , NERR_NF == 0x02000021\n”@/SourceCache/AppleMCEDriver/AppleMCEDriver-119.4.0/AppleMCEDriver.cpp:947

    Short synopsis of what AppleCare has told me to do follows:
    Run disc hardware tests (twice) – Passed
    Reinstalled Snow Leopard & FCP 7 (twice) – no change still get KP’s
    Rebuilt HD from ground up using new HD – no change still get KP’s

    Here’s my system:
    Model Name: Mac Pro
    Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
    Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 3.2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 8
    L2 Cache (per processor): 12 MB
    Memory: 16 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.6 GHz

    I would appreciate any help I can get! Thanks in advance.

    What other hardware is in the machine?

    Well let’s see:

    Kona LHe card
    Fiber Card
    Nvidia GeForce 8000

    and that’s it for the addons.

    No other software other than some P2 drivers and XDCAM drivers.

    [Gary Johns] “Kona LHe card
    Fiber Card”

    Have you updated the drivers and firm ware for these two?

    The Kona card needs to uninstall aand reinstall the latest drivers for Snow Leopard and FCS3.

    Your fiber card probably needs it too.

    Jeremy,

    With the new HD install I upgraded all drivers. Didn’t use any old ones at all. Apple now thinks it might be the ram but personally I’m thinking hardware at this point.

    I’ve got some Apple ram I can use but I’m willing to bet it will KP again. The 16 GB or ram is from Ocz that was designed for Mac…or so they say. It’s worked great in the other 3 editors and also in this one prior to the upgrades to the OS and FCP.

    If you have done a complete erase and install and updated everything then it is NOT a software issue that we will be able to help you with, it must be a hardware issue.

    Make an appointment at the genius bar at your local apple store and then then look at it and repair it.

    Have you tried the Kona NDD drivers?

    Also, what PCI slots are your cards in?
