  Rotten Footage

  So I tried to expand my skills and attempted filming a project as well as editing it. Yikes! Boy am I sorry.

  The footage was shot in 1080iHD so I was quiet dismayed to see that a large portion of it is really blurry and well, it has got to be the worst looking stuff ever filmed in HD. Here is a link to a still capture.

  Any suggestions or ideas how to salvage it? I’ve been editing for a while but I’m a newbie to fixing footage on this level of yuck.

  It would be easier to diagnose the problem from moving footage, especially want to see a zoom.
  I suspect the back focus on the camera is way off. Either not set up properly, or loose setting screw, or the macro might be partially engaged.
  There are several sharpening filters in FCP that can improve soft focus, but they add quite a bit of grain and can’t rescue footage that is really bad.

  Focus on HD is much more critical than the much more forgiving NTSC, and needs to be watched carefully.
  You may be looking at a reshoot.
