You may need to go to the distort option and change it to “0” if it is at 33.33 or -33.33. The reason this is happening is probably because your Final Cut settings are for DV and not DV anamorphic. All sequences created will open with the DV settings and video imported will not put the anamorphic flag in automatically. There should be a check mark in the Anamorphic column. If the video is anamorphic and no check mark is there, click in the space to make it a check mark. That is why it is so much easier to start with the proper Final Cut settings before creating a sequence or importing video.

If you do change the Final Cut settings the sequence that is automatically in the bin will still be set with the old settings. Either change those sequence settings or delete that sequence all together. Then create a new sequence and drop the video into that. It should now be good to go. That is if the video is actually anamorphic.
