  • Proper quicktime format for exporting from Avid into FCP

    Hello-
What is the proper quicktime compression format for exporting a clip from Avid and importing into FCP without any problems?

We are using an animation codec which plays back beautifully on the Mac desktop, but is being rejected by FCP with an error.

    Please inform.

    thanks,
    yvette

Use the Avid QT settings, DNxHD settings. Then go to avid.com and download the Avid QT codecs (LE are the ones that are available)…then FCP can see and import those and work with them.

BUT…if you have a capture card you will not be able to view them on an external monitor nor output that format to tape. You’ll need to convert to ProRes.

BUT…if you have the Animation QTs already, just convert those to ProRes and you should be good to go.

    What Shane said.

I’ve found that there can be gamma shifting and an elevated pedestal with the 8 bit DNxHD codecs, but the 10 bit seems to work perfectly.

Is there any recommandation for the proper codec when playing out a PAL/NTSC Sequence from Avid?
I have experienced a high pedestal upon import when using any of the FCP Quicktimee Codecs.
The Avid DV Codec simply turns out as black inside FCP
