ProRes codecs on machine without FCP

Not sure about that. You can get a DECODER on a machine without FCP, but not an ENCODER. QT 7.6 on Mac and PC has a built in decoder, so it will see ProRes files. IF you don’t have that version, then you need to install the Decoders from Apple:

It is against the license agreement to install an Encoder on a machine without FCP…FYI.

I believe the latest version of QuickTime has the pro res read only codec built in. No additional software necessary

I think John is right.
At least in PCs you don’t need any more the additional free reader.
