output problems when combining letterboxed/ 16:9 formats
I have to edit a project together that was shot with 2 different cameras. One shot in letterboxed, and the other shot in true 16:9.
Everything looks fine when looking at the project in Final Cut Pro (version 5.1.4), but when I try to make a high quality Quicktime of it, it makes the whole project “squeezed”.
Any suggestions?
Will upgrading to Final Cut 7 solve this problem?
How do I make a Quicktime using footage shot in two formats ( I prefer the 16:9 ratio ) -

No, upgrading the FCP 7 is not the solution.
Because letterbox is actually 4:3, i think the best solution is to work with a 4:3 timeline. When you drop your anamorphic footage into that timeline, it should blend seamlessly with the letterbox footage. If it doesn’t, in the Motion tab adjust the “Aspect” parameter to -33.33

So you have edit both cameras in an Anamorphic sequence?
Or in a 4×3 Letter-boxed sequence?

some footage is shoot letterboxed. some is shot in 16:9.
I’m using the default settings as far as the timeline goes.is there a way to set the timeline to except both formats and NOT squeezing the output (QT file).
another person suggested working in a 4:3 timeline or using the motion tab to change the aspect ratio. how do i change this setting.

Drop everything in an DV Anamorphic sequence.
Before that, in the Preferences, uncheck “Always scale clip to sequence”.
Your 4×3 Letterboxed will fit in the Anamorphic sequence and the top/down back bars will be cropped.
When you export and open in QT, your 16×9 movie will look distorted. This is normal. QT display that with Square pixels.
