  Mixing progressive and interlaced HD

  Hi all, I’m running final cut 7 with a blackmagic hd extreme card on a quad core 2.66 with 6g of RAM.

  I am working with XDCAM EX footage.

  Most of the cards have been recorded @ 1080i 25fps, but on 3 of them the camera operator has switched to progressive scanning (by accident as far as I can tell).

  The final sequence will need a mix of all the footage.

  Can I mix the footage on the timeline without having to render every progressive shot? Maybe there a way to work at a lower resolution that doesn’t care about mixing the scanning methods?

  Hope you guys can help.

  I’m very new to FCP, normally work on AVID so forgive me if I’m missing something obvious.

  Yes. They both run at 25fps. There will be a field dominance issue possibly, but if you switch Field Dominance to NONE, that might help.

  Thanks shane, I will try switching field dominance to none.

  Incidentally, something I should have mentioned is that I have already tried mixing them on the timeline and it wouldn’t let me play both without rendering one, but I will try the field dominance thing and see if that works.
