  • PLEASE HELP! Video/Audio Syncing Problems at export!

Posted by Louis Palacios on September 30, 2009 at 1:20 am

I am using Final Cut Pro 6 and am having a problem exporting my project. It is a 3 minute video with MANY MANY detailed cuts, effects, etc that are cut precisely to music. I shot the video myself at 24p on my Canon Vixia HV40. It is HDV 1080.

However when I export it the Video/Audio do not sync up! It’s getting me extremely worried because I have tried many things such as exporting the audio & video as separate tracks and bringing them back in Final Cut, and re-exporting.

The tricky thing is that the out-of-sync errors only occur outside of Final Cut Pro. When I import the same file back into Final Cut it appears as if it is synced. However, in Quicktime, other players, and on Youtube it is clearly out of sync.

I have also tried exporting with Compressor, and exporting with quicktime conversion and no success.

I am exporting in the same settings the timeline is in- which is the exact same format as the original source video I shot. Everything is fully rendered and plays beautifully within FCP.

Please help, I would appreciate it so much! You have no idea! 🙂

Try trashing your prefs and doing a restart.

    Didn’t work 🙁

WOW, this is really starting to get me nervous. I really hope I don’t have to snapz (screen grab) it. I really need to keep the quality perfect. 🙁

Thanks so much for the suggestion though!

Does it slip out of sync, or is it constantly out of sync by the same amount?

How do you monitor your picture and sound?

My guess is that your sound is constantly out of sync, and that you’re monitoring your picture and sound through separate paths. If this is the case, your sound has always been out of sync, but the problem with your monitoring setup has hidden this from you.

You should consult your FCP manual to find the diagrams that show how to properly hook up video monitor & speakers to your Mac for editing.
