  Photoshop file for FCP

  So my sequence in FCP is 640 x 360. And I need to make a graphic endpage in photoshop. So I make that image size 640×360. I create my image. Then when I import this image into final cut, into the 640×360 sequence, I am seeing a pillar box (?) (vertical black lines on the left and right of the image)

  Why is this happening? And what do I have to do to fix it? I imagine the fix is in photoshop b/c when I went to my motion tab in FCP to try to blow up the entire image. It doesn’t blow up the size of the image, just the image itself, leaving the black bars.

  Please give the complete specifications include PAR and codec for your sequence. Also please give the specifications you have set in easy setup when you imported the graphics file.

  Hi Colleen,
  it is probly cos FCP doesnt handle that size very well. With the Photoshop file in the timeline, highlight it, press return (dont double click), and it will open up in the viewer. You can then do a number of things. Use the motion tab zoom and distort settings (aspect) to resize the image to the correct width and height.

  Or use a good free plug in called Andys Better 3d to resize

  Okay, I’m not sure what PAR is. How can I find this? The Codec for my sequence is DV/DVCPRO – NTSC

  In easy setup, I have Format: (all formats) Rate: (all rates) Use: DV-NTSC

  The Pillar boxing is most likely because your Pixel Aspect Ratio’s (PAR) are different. The PSD is most likely Square pixel and the timeline is DV (which is lightly anamorphic).

  In sequence settings (apple-0) note your PAR and apply it to your PSD.

  Or,

  Bring your PSD into the viewer and adjust the aspect ration in Distort in Basic Motion. Square to DV is usually something like -12.5.

  In the future when you start a PSD, set your PAR to match your sequence.
