  How to replace low-quality WAV files with full-quality multitrack AAF files on the sequence?

  Dear all,

  My problem is caused probably because an odd workflow we took. I’m afraid I need to tell all the story -The footage originally was taken on 16mm (then transferred with telecine to DV PAL Mini DV tapes) and the sound was recorded (of course) separately with few microphones hence we have up to 4-5 tracks to every take. Anyway, as I’m not really experienced in all these stuff, I didn’t know exactly how the workflow would go further (I’m just the movie author assistant) and we got at first 2-channel WAV files to sync with the footage. I did so (in 24@25 project), the film was edited, or rathe is almost edited, and afterwards the soundman supplied us with AAF files (one per each shooting day).
  Here the problem starts – the previous WAV files (2channel, 16 bit) have to be replaced with full-quality (24bit) multitrack files. But, In the first place, as I said we got AAF which isn’t compatible with FCP. However our sound designer managed to open it with ProTools and exported every mono track as separate WAV 24bit file. The thing is how to replace the previous files with the new ones and sync their timecodes. Unfortunately the files are named diferently – I thought they was going to be the same files, just of the full quality, multitrack WAVes. By chance I’ve found this while searching for some info on the web: https://www.assistedediting.com/Sync-N-Link/ It seems to my that it would resolve the problem we have but of course I’m not sure (anyway, it’s additional 500$….).

  Does anyone knows how should I proceed?

  Is the edit difficult?
  If not, you can be saved. Altering the clips is not too difficult.
  This app. comes with a merge application that can put the multichannel BWF into your QT’s.

  (Although i’m not sure what happens with 24@25, do try the demo and check!)
  Next is to roundtrip trough an EDL, add some channels there, import and reconnect.
  (There is also a FCPreconnect app on my site if that turns out difficult)

  If the edit is complicated, perhaps Sync ‘n Link can help. I’m not sure, but ask Philip in case of doubt.

  Thanks, I’ll try to follow your instructions once I get home. The movie is about 1h20mins, too dificult for me, that’s for sure.
