  audio sync in FCP with Canon XL1 footage

  Hi,
  I’m working on a documentary film, which has an enormous amount of footage shot, primarily on a Canon XL-1. Because there’s over 300 hours of tapes, many of which have timecode breaks, we have been using the “Capture Now” option and capturing entire tapes with the idea of subclipping in the future. We just noticed a sync problem, which becomes more noticeable toward the second half of each hour-long clip. These sync issues are consistent with the footage shot on the Canon XL-1. We are not having this problem with footage from different cameras.

  We can break down the problem tapes into shorter clips, however, I’m guessing there is probably a sync issue, but less detectable.

  Has anyone experienced this issue? Any ideas for a work around? I’m especially interested in whether or not there is a fix for the 80 hours of footage already captured, or whether we need to re-capture those tapes. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jane
