    Hey guys,

I know little about XML and really anything to do with automating and coding, but was just wondering if anyone knows if it’s possible to bring data into a text layer in FCP from an eternal file.

I do a sport show every week and have some text layers set up to show scores which I have to manually update. If I could format these to bring the scores in automatically from one central data file everything would be much easier.

I imagine if it’s possible I would have stumbled upon it by now, but was just wondering if anyone had any ideas?

    Thanks all.
    Sincerely,
    Jason Allen

It’s certainly possible Jason, I knocked up something similar for a company I worked for a few years ago … it was an applescript that read in (optionally) an FCP XML v1 file and a text file (in RTF format) and then spat out an FCP XML that in it’s turn generated a bin full of formatted text generators on import (one for each line of text found in the file). Worked well enough although it was never especially pretty or polished. I just dug it out and tested it (FCP7 and OS X 10.6) and surprisingly it still seems to work … if you email me off list I’d be happy to send it to you (although not sure it will help you achieve specifically what you are after especially well!)

    Cheers
    Andy
