  link lost between clip and media

  All the footage that I am capturing on FCP5/ G5 Power PC to external HD via FW gets there ok. Then when I turn my back the system just arbitrarily decides to unlink clip and media.
  Hope someone can help before I toss this project and FCP

  OOPS! I had added .mov to the the media. It has been a long day
