  Problems w/ Making Independent Clips?

  Are there any problems with making Independent clips and renaming them? Would there be a problem with reconnecting media? What if footage is brought in at a low resolution, clips are made independent and renamed, then footage was brought in at a higher resolution?

  I’m getting into long documentary work and I use over twenty tapes, etc. at a time. So I also want to know if this is something I should avoid all together.

  Want to avoid problems…then log and capture from the start. It really takes no longer than capturing a full tape, then subclipping, renaming, then media managing to independant clips. In fact, it would take longer to do that than to log your footage then capture.

  But no, if you use the Media Manager to break up the clips, then reconnecting them at full resolution will work fine, as long as you are VERY good at labelling them with proper REEL information, and capture timecode.

  you would probably be better off making SUBCLIPS of the sections you wanted to re-name.
  read up on that,
  but basically, you define the section you want to subclip in the viewer with in/outs,
  hit apple U and you’ve got a subclip in the browser,
  ready to be re-named.

  when it comes time to re-capture the high-res media,
  you will most likely use the MEDIA MANAGER to create a high res version of your sequence with just the parts you’ve used.
  then do a batch capture.
  this is based on reel# and time-codes, so names do not really play a part

  if you;ve got a file-base workflow, then i don’t know.
  haven’t worked like that yet.

  Hey Shane,

  You mention log and capture…I’ve been shooting with a canon xh-a1 and while we’ll be getting a full size XDCAM soon, DV and HDV will be a part of my life for awhile.

  RIght now my procedure is to capture tape because play…pause…play…rewind…play…set in, etc, etc…just doesn’t work nearly as smooth as my betacam days! 🙂

  The deck I’m using right now is a Sony MVR-M15U. Are there any higher end decks that would roll DV tape more responsively?
