    Hi

I am new to FCP (6) and quite a newbie editor.

I would like to do a multicamera edit from four cameras.

The footage from each camera is chunked or segmented (we used the EX1 whihc uses cards). So, although the footage plays seamlessly from the timeline / track, it comprises numerous individual clips.

Is it possible to create a multicam edit from this kind of footage or does each track need to be rendered out as a single file?

It seems that even after I name each clip from one camera angle “1” for example, FCP treats each individual clip as a different angle?

    Any help much appreciated.

    Hi Dominic,

I had a similar situation with DVCPrpHD footage. When I captured the footage, I had lots of dropped frames and time code breaks that resulted in lots of individual clips. I assembled each camera angle onto a timeline and set the starting time code to match the source. I then exported these timelines as quicktime movies and brought them back and grouped them together for multi-cam.

This worked great and made my life much easier than trying to sync up all the shorter clips. It is important to make sure your time code matches up, even if you need to add a slug to fill in some gaps. The down side is it adds another step if you need to recapture the footage.

Thanks very much – I appreciate it. I thought that that may be the only option – oh boy. Here comes ANOTHER HUGE RENDER!

If your timeline settings match the source settings, you should not need to render anything. The output might take some time.
