  Well Chris, given the recent reports that Apple is gearing-up to release SL sooner than expected, the meaning will probably become much more apparent to all of us pretty darned soon.

  I take the article to mean that SL will not be a pure 64-bit OS after all, but that it will still have 32-bit underpinnings. Whether that is strictly to allow legacy apps some additional time on the planet, or whatever, I certainly can’t say, but at least it’s seems that the report might allay some of the paranoia going around that SL won’t be able to utilize the 64-bit operating space.

  At least that’s what I think it means…

  hi there david,

  afaik fcp isnt “64 bit ready” anyway, im not sure about motion and the others.

  my understanding is that a 32 bit app will get some speed gains, but nowhere nearly as much as an app written as a 64 bit app.

  anyone know?

  Yep, that’s what they say Mark… Nonetheless, should be interesting to see what benefits SL does bring with it.
