I’m beginning an HD multi cam concert and have a question with regard to loading each camera. All cams have matching timecode, and I have already logged and captured the footage from the program (line cut) master. In Avid there used to be a work around where you could batch digitize each tape by exporting the bin with all of the selects from one tape and then reimporting as a “log” bin and modifying those clips with a new tape number. Is it possible in FCP 6 to create new “log” bins so I don’t have to manually enter in and out for each clip on each camera?

I’m sure there is a better way to do this but the way I do it is too log the first tape like you have done.

Then open the Log and Capture window and drag each of the clips back in, make sure you change the name of the clip and reel #, I use _prog to _cam01, do this for each clip and each camera, you have to drag the clip in for each camera since FCP resets the In and Out when you hit log.

This is a low tech way but it gets it done at reasonable speed.

Export a batch list of the capture bin. Use Excel (or program of you choice) to change the reel name. Import the modified batch list . Capture.

Thanks John. That’s pretty much how it was done in Avid via ALE. Just wish you didn’t have to do that, rather just be in multi cam mode and set up cameras to load selects to match your main selects. AH well, maybe some day:)

In Avid, you can duplicate your line cut clip then use the Unlink command (control-shift modifier, I think) to change the reel name. But that is for another forum 🙂
