  • My In and Out points no longer correlate – Please help me fix

    Hi Guys

I am editing a Instructional video, for which, i have designed over 300 lower thirds in After Effects. They have been broken down into groups of 50, which have then been rendered, into 1 QT ( so i have 6 QTs ) , and i have spent a long time placing them where they need to go.

Over the course of time, i have made some changes to the lower thirds in AE, which has meant i needed to re-render entire chunks (which for me, suited my workflow), however i now notice that in FCP, my in and outpoints for some QTs, have changed and those lower thirds are incorrect.

So, i have now, re-rendered the problem files in AE, only now to find that FCP, has not updated its in and outpoints and repeatedly plays the same lower third. Its as if, when i saved my FCP project with the incorrect lower thirds, i then lost all the correct in and out points i had spent ages laying down. And now i have fixed it, it won’t update itself to what it was, and consequently, loops.

Can anyone suggest a fix? I have been saving versions as i go along, and the version before it all went wrong, looks fine. Can i bring in an older FCP project, like in AE? I have tried and all the projects are greyed out.

    Thanks for any help.

I figured it out. I was able to open another project and copy and paste in the new one. I was looking for import….thats why it was greyed out.

    Doh!

    “re-render entire chunks”

“chunks” is a bit scary sounding.

for reconnecting in FCP to work, you would, probably have to re-render the entire thing.
your render, or export from AE should be exactly the same duration,
    with exactly the same TC.
some variance in this is ok in FCP, but mostly it’ll cause you trouble.

Best thing to do, in AE, make the changes to the particular comp, then in the render que, select that comp and choose duplicate with file name and rerender. Render right over the previous render.

In FCP, it could potentially not notice that the file has changed, and continue to use it\’s render file. You can delete render files or force a rerender of the file by making a change to the opacity and then changing it back, etc. Although in FCS 3 these sort of changes might not force a rerender as render mgmt is supposed to be better.
