  • Project: One sequence with 25 short films, or 25 separate projects?

Posted by Andy Crowson on July 28, 2009 at 10:58 am

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice…
I’m just planning an educational DVD with about 25 short films of 40 seconds to two and a half minutes each. There will be subtitles to switch on and off all films, and possibly karaoke subtitles as well to switch on and off, if I can work out how to do them. I’m wondering whether it would be best (most efficient/least space/best results etc) to make a separate project for each film, and put those into the DVD package, or alternatively have one long timeline with everything in one project. Any ideas?

it’s ALL a lot of work, either way!

but i’d be tempted to work in one FCP PROJECT,
and work on each movie in its own SEQUENCE.

    cheers,

Ok, thanks. Does that mean that you can change the order of the films/sequences more easily? And when it comes to integrating them into one DVD project, how does that work?

    Hi, Andy.

as separate items in DVDSP, you can assemble them as various TRACKS.

the alternative is to create different STORIES in DVDSP, where you can use the chapter markers on one item to control the flow.

i haven’t done enough with either to say one is definitely better than the other.
i suppose i was thinking about working in FCP, where again it’s a bit of a coin toss as to which approach is best.
but if you discover a small mistake in one of your movies,
having them as separate items means only having to re-export and encode that one.

it would pay to also ask at a DVDSP forum.
