We have purchased Final Cut Server and installed it about 15 months ago. We have yet to have success with it use. We have lost complete confidence in its stability and function that we have not begun using it with deadline driven productions. Our Project Manager is about to pull his hair out because of the frequency of failure and disconnects.

We are at a point where we are wanting to explore other options. We have a need to manage our video, photo, audio, etc. assets for all of our productions, both tv and web. We want to be able to search for clips based on metadata and allow others to search clips via web based app off-site. We love what Final Cut Server promises, but have lost complete confidence in its ability to deliver.

What are some suggestions that you are using to manage the various assets of your productions?

    We use this,

    https://www.squarebox.co.uk/server.html

Can’t say I’ve ever had any complaints from our producers about it. We even give them 500Gb drives with proxy clips for them to use/log/edit offline while they’re away doing producers things with no internet.

You can XML logging and edl type data in and out of FCP.

Look at Canto Cumulus, too, although I’d never recommend it to anyone.

Silly as it sounds, we’re no looking at Microsoft Expressions products. Sheesh, never thought such words should pass my lips.
