24PA interlacing even with advanced pulldown. Help!
I’m about ready to pull out some hair.
I’m shooting with a Panasonic AGVX100B in 24P Advanced. My FCP capture preset is Advanced Pulldown 2:3:3:2 and my sequence settings are 23.98 fps. My understanding is that as long as I use the Advanced pulldown I shouldn’t experience any interlacing, but it’s not working.
The problem is that I’m STILL getting bad horizontal interlacing.
I’m at a loss here and don’t know how to fix this. Any ideas?

Did you log and capture the tape or just capture one big clip?

I logged and captured multiple clips from the same tape. Actually I’ve tried capturing other tapes and other clips- but it’s not making a difference.

Are you sure you shot 24pA and not 24p?

And you are capturing via firewire I take it?

Yes. All of the basic things that one might think of are accounted for. (btw thanks for responding).

OK. As a favor and test, log and capture 2 seconds of the material, making sure you have chosen the advanced pulldown easy setup. Make sure that the shot you capture is from the same consistent camera roll (meaning it’s from a single shot, and not two shots from the tape). Does it work?

No, I’m still seeing the interlacing.

Okay. No do me a favor and capture a second or two with just the standard 29.97 setting and post it. I want to look at the pulldown cadence.
