mixed frame rates
I’m working in a mixed frame rate project in a 29.97 timebase in Final Cut Pro with footage shot at 24p (normal), captured at 29.97 (1080i60) and footage that is 25fps that we’re considering converting to 29.97 via Teranex. I’m wondering if there is a software conversion solution that will be similar to the quality of Teranex. I noticed the PAL footage has a video-like quality to it whereas the 24p ftg looks more like film; our goal is to get the PAL ftg looking as close to the 24p as possible- will that be achieved by the Teranex transfer?
Also, am I right to be working in a 29.97 project or should I be in 23.98? We will be submitting to film festivals and most likely international distribution. My understanding is that 23.98 projects allow for easier conversions to different formats- film and PAL. Is there a major downside to working in 29.97?

You’re way out of my league but I can tell you that you should be designing your editing format for the most likely output and working backwards from there. If your most likely release is PAL, work in PAL. If it’s film, work at film frame rates. NTSC? Generally, having more frames is better than not having enough.
Attempting to mix frame rates requires compromises and lots of planning. You pay dearly to try to create frames that don’t exist or you throw away frames you spent lots of money to acquire. Each is a stylistic approach that needs testing and evaluation before committing or the budget to keep changing your mind.
Never heard of Teranex, you need to find their user group.
