  Cutting a 24 frame project-wont play in consumer NTSC monitor?

  Hey Guys,
  I am cutting a film project in Final Cut Pro which we reverse telecined to 24 frames. I cant get this to play in my consumer NTSC monitor. 23.98 and 29.97 footage plays fine, why won’t 24 and how can I fix this?

  Video is almost always 23.98 or 29.97 framerate, that is the normal. Only a few cameras/decks do true 24p, are you sure you did 24p? No consumer TV does true 24p that I’m aware of.

  We shot on film, had that telecomed to 29.97, then after digitizing in FCP, we reverse televined the ftg so we could cut in 24. The new 24 frame gtg won’t play in our consumer NTSC monitor, it only shows a frozen frame?

  How are you getting the signal to the monitor? Capture card?

  We have blackmagic Decklink studio.

  You have to set the View>Video Playback to 1080i 29.97 8-bit.

  I set the video playback to 1080i 29.97 – 8bit and all I get are small white dashes running thru the screen. We are cutting neg at the end of this show, that’s why we wanted to cut in 24, but would there be any problem cutting in 23.98?

  Sorry No that is not technically possible.
  you do not get 24.0 fps from a 29.97 timeline, you get 23.98

  Oh and for reference 24.0 will NOT PLAY on an NTSC tv… 23.98 will pulldown to make 29.97 will.

  Are you saying that you cannot get 24fps straight up from a 29.97 tape? SURE you can! I know more than a few that have on purpose, and a few who have done this on accident. For film work that matched back to a negative cutter this is preferred, is it not?

  But I do know that viewing on an external monitor is not possible with 24fps straight up. Avid still has a huge leg up on cutting film…it allows for this.
