  HDV Timecode in FCE

  I have edited a short film that was shot on HDV and cut in Final Cut Express HD. I have managed to get a post-prod house to do a grade and online for the film. In order for this happen they are going to need to a autoconform. Unfortunately, I have only just realised that FCE doesn’t allow me to make an EDL. To try to combat this it opened the project in FCP 6.5 and produced an EDL from that, however the EDL appears like this:

  011 AX AA C 00:00:33:19 00:00:48:12 00:00:09:22 00:00:24:15
  * FROM CLIP NAME: TAPE 08-31
  * PROBLEM WITH EDIT: CLIP HAD NO TIMECODE TRACK.

  I have now read that FCE hides the source timecode. I am assuming this is why it is telling me why I the clip has no timecode track. Is there anyway I can unhide the source timecode or am I going to have recapture the entire film piece by piece in order to produce a EDL?

  FCE handels HDV by converting it to the Apple Intermedate Codec (AIC), it does not handel HDV nativley.

  And I believe that as it converts the HDV footage to AIC that it looses all of the original time code.

  So unfortunitly I think you are out of luck.

  There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.
  Don’t let technology get in the way of your creativity!
