  • XDCAM sequence crashes – purple and green frames / canvas

    Hello,

we are editing in XDCAM EX 1080VB 23.98 and mixing both native EX footage with down-converted 23.98 DV footage. Unfortunately FCP crashes quite a bit and often, right before the crash, we are seeing purple or green flash frames and won’t be able to play back the XDCAM footage. Instead of video we are getting a green or purple canvas. So I am assuming the codec is making FCP crash?

    Anybody having the same problem?

    System:
MacPro 8 -core, 6GB RAM, newest version of FCP (6.0.6), both the OS and QT are updated to the newest version.
Kona 3 on the latest driver. 2 RAIDS connected via ESATA.

    Thank you!

    Christoph

Somewhat easy…. I have seen this before.

Remove the two 1 gig RAM bars you have installed and make absolutely for sure that the rest of your memory is installed equally in the risers. Two bars in Riser A Slot 1 and 2 and two bars in Riser B Slot 1 and 2.

This makes a HUGE difference when working in FCP with XDCAM material.

    No… You’re still missing it.

You can’t mix sizes either… All of the memory needs to be the same size. If you have 4 gig bars, use these. If you have 4 1 gig bars use these, but you can’t mix 2 gig bars on Riser B with 1 gig bars on Riser A. They MUST be the same size. Read the tech doc from Apple.
