Firmtek Spyder hub
Does anyone have experience with this product. https://www.firmtek.com/seritek/seritek-spyder/ ?
I am thinking of getting the Matrox MXO2 and it connects via the Express card port thus eliminating my ability to attach my external SATA drives. The Spyder hub allows for the attachment of SATA via FW.
I am going to be offlining with the DV codec so my data rate needs are pretty low.

I’ve not worked it personally, but I’ve heard good things about the Spyder Hub, and it was designed precisely to do what you wish to do.

You can ATTACH via FireWire using that, but will you get the speed of SATA? No. Your bottleneck will be the FW port.

Yeah, I’m aware of that. But for this project, after buying the Matrox and some software upgrades to have any kind of ROI I can’t invest in a CalDigit VR like I would want. I will be working only in DV for this project so I should be fine. I just happen to have 2Tb of available external SATA storage that I would like to use for the project.
