I am presently working with 17″ MacBook Pro and 23″ ACD. I plan to purchase a 2.66 Quad-Core
to upgrade. I am comfortable using the combination I have now and wondered if I can add the Quad-Core but still use the MacBook keyboard & screen. My conjecture is that the Q-C internal HD would hold FC Studio and other editing related software while day-to-day functions could be carried out the MB-P.

To be perfectly frank I’m not sure if this is a pipe dream or an unnecessarily cumbersome (foolish?) set up but I am comfortable with the workflow I have established using the MB-P screen and the ACD and would just as soon not have the larger keyboard on my already crowded desktop.

    Dreaming away!

    Thanks,

    Dick

You cannot use the MacBook Pro as a monitor for a MacPro. You need to use actual computer monitors for that.

You can get an Acer or two for $200 each..22″.

You could use screensharing and control you MacPro from your Macbook Pro, but I doubt that it would be useful for editing. 😉

Quite frankly, your workflow does not make sense to me.

Why would you want to use your MBPro’s Keyboard and mouse when your Mac Pro already comes with its own?

Use your MBPro for Personal use and your new Quad Core for Work. The Mac Pro has plenty of room for expansion. More hard drives, RAM, PCIe slots, etc. Use the ACD with the Mac Pro.
