ProRes422 to OfflineRT and back again
Hello.
I recently found that you can offline, to save space and computing power.
I have all my captured clips on my macpro at the studio, but i sometimes need to do the editing somewhere else, and my macbook doesn’t have enough space for all that prores footage. (usually 5-7Hrs, about 260 gigs)
So i read about OfflineRT and i found 2 workflows.
The one where i capture everything lo-res OfflineRT and then FCP recaptures only the clips with the tc used in the timeline
The other one where i make an offline sequence, edit that and then reconnect to the hi-res files. The problem is that the second one is not well documented, so i made my own workflow, but the problem is that it’s not 100% fullproof. (a test rather than workflow)
I have some captured ProRes422 footage, and using media manager i recompress it to Offline RT.
– i give in’s and out’s and drop them on the timeline.
– export as xml
– import the xml, with the sequence set to ProRes422 1280×720 24p (wich into the same project adds a folder with a hd sequence and the offline files)
here comes the tricky part
– select all files in the new folder and reconnect to mediaand the problem is that FCP reconnects only the first file i selected, although they are all in the same folder.
What am i doing wrong and what is the correct workflow for this kind of setup ? (the one where i keep my original files and recompress them to offline rt)
