I’m using an oval matte around video of a couple as a way of highlighting their undying love for one another.

Is it possible to create a heart shaped matte or would that have to be done in photoshop?

    Thanks.

Easiest to do it in Photoshop.

    All the best,

Easy to create in Motion, too.
You can build a heart out of three intersecting matte shapes, two ovals (slightly rotated) and a square (rotated 45 degrees).

Heck, you can draw a heart on paper and shoot it with a still camera.

But how do should you prepare the mask? Should the shape be a solid black/white image? I’ve used masks in photoshop, illustrator and indesign, but not in fcp.

I am trying to use a custom rectangle that has two rounded corners and two square corners. I have the shape made in illustrator, I dropped the source file into the CoverFlux plugin for the custom shape mask and nothing happened.
