Z1 capture for FCP
Posted by Michael Wood on June 2, 2009 at 1:38 pmI have some tapes recorded on a Z1 camera in HDV1080i 50i. I cannot get FCP to recognize the Z1 as a deck in any setting configuration so far. Do I have to down-convert it?
What set-up do I need in the Z1 menu, and what capture/deck settings do I need in FCP?
Cheers.
Mike.

June 2, 2009 at 1:42 pmYou should just be using FCP’s Easy Setup for HDV 1080i/50. That should set you up for FW control of the camera and input via Firewire.
It’s possible, your Z1 is set in DV mode via Firewire and not HDV. If so, then FCP would not recognize it correctly until it’s in HDV mode via Firewire.

June 2, 2009 at 1:58 pmHi,
Thanks for the quick response.
My Z1 is set on HDV, ‘Component’ is 1080i/576i, iLink Conv is off, Downconvert is Squeeze, and A/V DV OUT is ON. It’s linked direct to my Imac via Firewire and set to VCR mode. When I start up FCP, I get an “unable to find external devices” warning.I used Easy setup with Format: HDV and Use: HDV 1080i50 FIrewire Basic.
No joy so far. I must be missing something.Cheers.

I believe you also need to turn off the A/V DV OUT because that is saying you want to send dv out of your firewire. So you need to turn that off as well as the ilink conv

June 3, 2009 at 12:14 pmIts also recommended that the camera is connected and switched on before you open FCP.
