  • Crash when Exporting w/Motion templates in TL?

    Hi all –

Thought I’d ask the group, is it common for FCP (6.0.2) to crash when exporting to a self contained QuickTime file when there are motion templates in the timeline?

I’ve got four master templates that I exported in Motion, and have dropped into my FC timeline.

The video and the sequence settings are ProRes 422 (HDV > to ProRes on Capture).

I seem to run into this issue often, figured ProRes video is not likley the cause..

Not normally, but someone else recently reported issues when trying to compress a file from an FCP timeline with Motion templates. My suggestion was to go back into Motion and render out quicktime files and drop those into the timeline. That solved his issue.

Hmm.. I’ll try that and then re-export and see how it does.

The bugger there of course is, the whole reason for using the motion templates in my case is the text needs to be changed for every video…

    Thanks for the idea,

PS. Anyone else out there run into this issue? Any thing you did that lets you still use Motion templates?

Motion Templates have been causing me to pull my hair out over the past few months. There are MANY bugs.

The Motion renderer will not work correctly under OS X 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 with certain video cards. If you have either of those OS versions installed, you may consider upgrading to 10.5.7. It seems to be working okay for me so far. Is there a reason you are running FCP 6.0.2? You should definitely update to 6.0.5 and the latest version of Motion if possible. There are quite a few relevant fixes in the update.

Also, I find Master Templates render much more reliably if I render them in the sequence and then export. If you are using custom Master Templates, things will work much better if you pre-render as many elements as possible. Pre-render any group that does not contain a drop zone or editable text element.
