    Hi,

    Currently I’ve got such configuration:

    Sony PWM EX 3 camcorder
Mac Pro – Dual Xeon 2.26
Sony DVCAM recorder connected with FW
    Final Cut Studio 2.0

Next week I’ll have Kona LHi in my system, but till that time I need to do some work on my current system.

I do not know how should I aproach HD->SD conversion. Where should I make conversion, on which step? Should I import XDCAM footage, edit it on HD timeline and convert to SD just before export to tape? If so, how should I setup my software – I’ve tried that and efforts were not very good. Maybe should I make conversion upon import and edit using SD timeline?

    Krzysztof

There’s a thread on the Ken Stone site that recommends converting to your output format as quickly as possible. I do HD-SD conversions all the time, although I must say that all I’m doing is simply dropping my 1080 clips onto my SD timeline, and then resizing them as needed. (I started a thread recently about just what the best way would be to get from HD to SD using XDCAM footage, and it came down to two basic choices: Compressor, or just drop the footage straight onto the timeline…so I went with the latter, simply because people smarter than me said it was ok:-)

As far as how to setup your software, you’ll need to provide more info about your workflow first. There’s a ton of people here who can help you out!
