  making stars in a still twinkle?

  Anybody have any advise on how to get stars in a night sky still photo to twinkle in AE?

  try this.

  Make a solid black layer and place it behind the stars.

  Create a solid layer and leave it at the top of the stack order.

  Give the top layer the fractal noise effect. Effect >Noise and grain > Fractal Noise.

  Set the stars layer to use the fractal noise layer as a luma matte

  Animate the fractal noise’s evolution property. (you’ll have to play around a bit.

  The fractal noise is being used as a luma matte to reveal and hide different stars. As the evolution is animated some stars are hidden, others revealed.
