I have Just shot 40 hrs of footage on the PDW 700 and am currently transferring everything to FCP. Unlike earlier versions of the camera i.e the PDW 300 where i could change the reel name of each disk before transfer i’m not able to do so now. This becomes a problem when i have 20 disks all showing untitled as the reel name which if any footage should go offline later in the cut it could be problematic!!

Is there any way of changing the disk/reel name before transfer?

    Thanks

    Oliver

Once your XDCAM disk shows up on the desktop can you not rename the disk in the Finder just like any other attached device and then start XDCAM transfer and navigate to your disk? Just curious.

Unfortunately not with these disks. I used to be able to take off the record safe tab on the disk, rename in the finder then when its added to xdcam transfer it shows up with a new reel name. Now the disk that shows up in the finder Just shows XDCAM and is locked. The camera hasn’t seemed to assign a reel name either.

You have to rename your discs in the Transfer Software – “Source”.

Okay. I wasn’t sure. I think in XDCAM Prefs you can choose to have the name of the folder become part of the clip name. The work around might be to transfer your clips off the disk to a uniquely named folder. That way you’d get your clips named something other than Untitled.

EDIT: Wayne’s way sounds a lot better 🙂

Exactly. You can manage your disc names inside the XDCAM Transfer app … preferably before you press the Import button to bring in the high-res media.

I don’t seem to be able to change the disk names. The ‘source’ section of the information tab is read only and the logging info doesn’t change the info coming in to fcp. I’m changing the transfer folders in the finder manually after transfer and then changing the reel name in fcp. Seems to work.

    Thanks

We are on XD Cam Transfer 2.7.1. As long as the disc is not write protected we can change the name of the disc in the desktop and when we click on to the Transfer window it asks if we want to save the information. This works even while the proxies are being created, but will not change the name of the folder in your capture scratch if clips have already been imported.

    good luck,

    Victor
