Configuring FCP to digitize 24p footage from Sony HDW1800
Hi All,
I’ve noticed a lot of troubleshooting for digitizing via firewire, but haven’t located any about deck problems, hence my little post.
I’m currently attempting to digitize 1920×1080 24p footage from my Sony HDW1800 deck, which is currently set to 24Psf. I’m running the signal through an AJA IoHD box, and have tried multiple Easy Setups in FCP (AJA IoHD – 1080p 24 Apple ProRes 422, 1080psf 24 Apple ProRes 24, 1080psf 23.98 Apple ProREs 422…the list goes on). I always get audio passing through, but no picture. I get instead colour bars, a frozen image or a blank screen.
The footage is green-screen for my visfx team, and they shot it at 24p and want it to stay that way, so I’m not sure about capturing at 23.98? Am I totally off here?
So I’m looking for some suggestions- Is this an AJA problem, and I’m not setting up the AJA Control Panel correctly? Or have I not found the correct FCP Easy Setup?

How can you use the I/O HD on an iMac? It only has one firewire bus, and the only hard drives that you can attach are firewire, but you also have the I/O HD via firewire…so that can’t work.
Might that be the issue?
I mean…I/O HD…HDCAM deck…and an iMac? All of this high end professional gear and a consumer computer? Dude…you need a MacPro…or a MacBook Pro.

Well, we have a 1.5Tb drive hooked up via Firewire 2.0, and then the IoHD is connected with the firewire 400; it seems that we have a couple of firewire ports. So hopefully that’s not the problem, or else we’d have to get another computer! 🙂

Sorry, but you might have multiple PORTS, but Macs, ALL macs, including MacPros and MacBook Pros…and iMacs…have one firewire BUS. Multiple ports…one bus. It is an issue.
Firewire 2.0? Do you mean USB 2.0? USB is not suitable for video capture. It sends data in bursts and video needs a constant steady stream. It MIGHT work for DV, but that is it…and not reliably.
You need a better computer.

You must use FW800 to connect an IoHD to your computer for HD use.
