  • OMF bit depth conversion in FCP?

Posted by Ryan Krickow on May 26, 2009 at 7:09 am

If I create an OMF in FCP and choose a bit depth of 24 does FCP convert all my 16 bit material into 24 bit? I ask this question because I have a project with both 16 and 24 bit material and I need to pass an OMF off to post sound. As I understand it Pro Tools can’t deal with mixed bit depths, thus my question. Thanks, Ryan

Yes..when you export an OMF file, the new embedded media will all be one bit depth. I may be mistaken, but more recent versions of ProTools do not have this issue anyway.

Thanks John! Can anyone confirm that Pro Tools can handle mixed bit depths at this point?
