  • How to add subtitles to an MPEG stream?

Posted by Stephen Vilas on May 25, 2009 at 5:07 pm

I am aware this might not be the most appropriate forum to post this, but I don’t really see any other forum that fits the description. so apologies for that in advance.

I have just made a MPEG2 multiplexed 720p stream for digital screening on a festival. The master sequence is actually a 2K tiff sequence.
The festival needs subtitles embedded in this film.

I am using Belle Nuit and the subtitles have been made already according to the time code. What software can I use to add subtitles to this MPEG2 stream without having to re-encode everything again. What subtitle format do you recommend? is this even possible at all?

[Stephen Vilas] “The festival needs subtitles embedded in this film.”

Then you need to re-encode the video with the titles in it. The only way to “embed” is to embed them in the picture.
