Idle message Final cut pro 6
I know that a lot of people have had this problem, and i have tried the solutions posted on this forum, but I still have the problem. Its driving me crazy. I shot with a panasonic HVX 200, and i used a dvcpro hd to capture the fottage. I can view the video in the viewer in the log and transfer, but when I try and import certain clips i get a idel message. Some clips upload but others don’t. I tried all the tips that have been posted on here, even the pulldown removal, but nothing works. How could i imp[ort these clips? Do i have to purchase ray light or hd log or calibrated, if so, which one of these mxf file reading apps gives me the most bang for my buck. Don’t have to much money to spend on a program. but please someone help me with this issue. I have a client i have to give this project to and don’t want to mess up my reputation by not having important shots.
Also I should add, when i try and look at some of the fottage from DVC pro when it is connected to the camera, while playing back the clips, the dvc pro freezes and skips. did i make a mistake while setting up the dvc pro to the panasonic. i used the DVC pro b4 and never had this issue during playback.

I’ve found that when you use Log and Transfer, sometimes if you try to select too many clips to transfer at once, it will give you problems. Try breaking it up, transferring a few clips at time.
It would also help to know about your setup. Mac Pro, or laptop? How much ram? Are you transferring to external storage (and if so, puuuuhhhhleeease, let it not be USB)?
Also, be careful about the pulldown removal option, because if your footage does not have pulldown embedded, you could cause problems.

So you read my stock answer on this? Should I post it so you see all the options? On this shoot did you use more than one card? DO you have all the cards used on this shoot mounted? So that spanned footage can be connected.
Did you shoot everything the same format? Not switch partway through on the same card? How is the drive formatted that you are transferring the footage to? Just guessing here. This is tough as the stock answer has all the stuff I needed to do to get the footage to import.
I prefer Calibrated to Raylight, but really like MXF4QT. Yes, it is expensive, but it has a lot of features to it. You might not need all of those features, so Calibrated might be the next best option. Then P2 Log, that can convert to QT and add metadata.

I use the HVX200 and the Panasonic AJ PCD20 card system, and I got the “idle clip” every once in a great while.. I just delete the operation and try again and if it persist, one option I have is to trash my FCP settings and start fresh. You can read more about this in Ken Stone’s FCP articles (trashing prefs). Sometimes the prefs become corrupted.

Uploading with a USB? Are you transferring from your camera to a USB hard drive? If so, I would make that my prime suspect for issues. Even since you’re not capturing but transferring, the sheer size of the files you’re moving could give you problems. For the purposes of editing, you really will want more ram than just a gig. 2 gigs bare minimum, 4 would probably do you best.
