I’m not sure if i’m wording this right but i’ve had a serious problem with after effects where i “hide” it to look for something on the desktop and then i can’t get it to reveal itself. when i click on the icon for it on the dock, safari’s drop down menus pop up on top instead.

I’ve tried to open after effects by right clicking a file and saying open with after effects and by double clicking project files but still either safari’s drop down appears or bridge even with these apps closed!

this has been happening since we got the cs suite and ae 7. it may be an os x issue i don’t know. it’s caused me to force quit and lose changes since saving last.

what is the deal? how do i get out of this looophole and/or avoid it/ and why?

any insight is appreciated. thanks 🙂

I am having the same problem as you and i run a Mac Pro, i dont expierence the problem as much when i click the minimize button in the top left, where as i use to do “after effects” > hide, and that caused a lot of problems. Save all the time and good luck.

Try just double-cicking on the file name at top center of the window.

I thought the 7.0.1 update fixed that.

I have this problem with After Effects CS3 (8.0.1) on Leopard 10.5.1. I know that AE isn’t supposed to work with Leopard yet (not fully anyway), but I just thought I’d point this out. I usually hold down the option key and click on the desktop to minimize apps, but noticed that it doesn’t work with AE CS3. I also tried using the hide command from the apple menu but that doesn’t work either. Then I read this thread and tried the minimize button in the upper left corner of the window and that worked. Double clicking the title of the window also worked. However, when I click on the AE icon in the dock to maximize the window (unhide it), everything comes back except for the menu bar. I have to quit After Effects and relaunch it for it to work again. Hopefully the next AE CS3 patch will address this.
