    Hey everyone,

We’re having issues with edit to tape options being greyed out when we go to drop in our sequence. I’m able to do a crash edit, but we’d like to have accurate timecode. The protocol has been set to Panasonic rs422. The one thing that is likely our problem is that in the edit to tape window setting it does not give the option to go to AJA option that includes Panasonic, everything else is the correct AJA setting. Has anyone else encountered this problem. Thanks in advance for your time and input.

    Heres our setup:
    Panasonic AJ-SD93
    AJA LHe
    FCP v6.0.3
    OS 10.4.11
    output to DVCPRO50

You cant edit to tape using that deck and RS-422. It does not support it

    From its user manual….

    • The specifications are based on the RS-422A
interface, and editing-related functions do not work.
In this case, use it as a player.

You might want to try using Firewire, instead of the Kona/RS-422. It doesn’t say whether it works under firewire control, but its not likely to be accurate even if it does. Usually this means the deck has no flying erase heads, which are necessary for edit functions to be accurate.

You’ll need to either find a Panasonic deck that is an “editing” deck or find a local post house with the appropriate machinery. another option would be get out to dbeta, clone via SDI back to DVCPro50 if that is your delivery format
