I need to digitize a tape and deliver it to a client in H.264. Currently, I digitize in DV if possible and then convert it, but is there any way to digitize it in H.264?

I have tried to create capture templates but always end up dropping frames. I am using FCP 6.0.5 with a Kona 3 card.

You can record RT to H264 in QuickTime Pro, but then you cannot edit it. There are a couple of devices that help with encoding process to make it a lot faster. There is a video podcast on the cow on one of these devices.

H.264 is not a capture or editing codec.

You can set up batches in Compressor to take care of multiple files if needed.

I also have a use to capture in H.264. I realize it is not a capture or editing codec, but every week I need to capture 45 minutes of video that doesn’t need to be edited. It does however, need to be small and ready to deliver ASAP.

I’ve been looking into the Matrox MX02 box because I heard it would record directly to H.264. Can anyone confirm this?
