Help editing out words and replacing them in a cartoon where animation overlaps word
Hi there,
I am trying to edit out words in a cartoon because they are in english and we are changing them to a different language. The problems I am encountering are that the words flash up on a screen which is quite a complicated image, like transparent and there are reflections on the words that come up. Also the characters hand goes across the screen and in front of the words that I want to replace. Just adding text means that his hand will go behind the text so is it travelling mattes I should be looking at? Can anyone point me in the right direction for doing this ?

You must touch every frame with hand-drawn elements.

ROTOSCOPING.You cannot possibly do this economically so begin negotiating with your client immediately about how to keep the project profitable without sacrificing too much of the design concept.

Ok it sounds a bit advanced for us who are just beginning at fcp. The way we did one before was to create a still image then put text on top of it but then had to do each frame in motion to mimic the original animation of the computer screen that was moving in the cartoon.
So rotoscoping would be the only way of removing the characters hand from on top of the bit where the text is to be?
