  trouble importing AVCHD into FCP via USB

  Hi,

  Can I import AVCHD clips from my Sony 1080 handycam into FCP via firewire?
  If not, what do I have to do to get them imported via USB?

  And one other question — I could import the clips into iMovie without any problems. I then backed them up on a harddrive, but when I tried to import the clips into FCP from the hard drive (which is not ideal, i know) the picture was compressed. Another guy in the lab I’m working in said it was because it was set to 4:3. I shot in 16:9. I tried changing the aspect ratio in Sequence/Settings, but had trouble with it.

  What should I do? Any advice?

  First use easy setup for the proper settings, then use log and transfer to transcode the clips to ProRes.
