XDCAM footage to FCP
Hi I’m having trouble opening up my XDCAM footage on FCP. I have downloaded it from the cards onto an external drive using SxS Device and it all appears fine when I open it up in my Finder Window but
a) when I click on the clips, quicktime will not allow me to open it and b) when I try to import it to FCP via Sony XDCAM Transfer the files are empty.
PS I am very new at all this -

You use the XDCAM Transfer software or the plug-in for the Log and Transfer to bring the media in. When you transferred the files off the card, you should have brought in the BPAV folder and everything in it.

Hi Lara,
Which FC version are you using?
It seems that you haven’t the codec installed.
The SONY Transfer allow you to download in those circumstance, but of curse you can not see the picture.

Thanks for that, but that is what I’ve done – when I try importing the BPAV into FCP it gives me a ‘general error’ message and the folder arrives but is empty…
When I go to Finder and open up the BPAV folder there are clips in there – MP4’s and XML’s but I can’t seem to play them either.

Is there something that I can download to enable me to see the footage or do I need to capture it all again? -

Stop messing with BPAV folder.
Don’t change absolutely nothing inside.
There is nothing you can do with the BPAV in your HD.
The BPAV must be in the SXS card to download the footage.

When you open the Transfer tool, the application log and fetch the clips.
You should have a preview of the clips.
You just need to select the clips you want and click IMPORT.
The clips are downloaded as .mov.
Then you should be able to play then in FC, QT, etc.

You can’t do that. You either use the XDCAM Transfer tool to convert all the files to Quicktime or you use the XDCAM Import plug-in for Log and Transfer to convert all the files to Quicktime.
You launch the tool.
Select the folder
Convert the files you want to Quicktime.

The files are already MP4’s – what or how must I convert them? I cannot seem to find anything that can do this on my XDCAM Transfer tool.
I have already tried launching the tool, selecting the folder and importing it but the folder comes in showing 0 clips… -
When I try to add it into my XDCAM Transfer in order to import it, it adds in the folder but with nothing in it. The only way I have managed to find out if the clips are actually there is by watching them in VLC.

Put the BPAV inside another folder first. Give the parent folder a suitable name. Now open XDCAM Transfer and Add that parent folder not the BPAV folder itself but the parent folder that contains the BPAV folder. Does it see the contained clips now?
Alternatively, download and install the XDCAM EX Log and Transfer plugin for FCP (PDZK-LT) from here:
https://www.sony.ca/xdcamex/software.htm
Then use FCP’s own built in Log and Transfer interface to access the BPAV folder an import the clips to FCP.Hope it helps
