  How do I export fcp project in anamorphic? Should I take it into compressor?

  How do I make a 35 min anamorphic pal 48 khz, sd, project sequence into a best quality 16:9 .mov – or should I take it into compressor and how? How much space do I need on my computer? I keep getting file too large on both my computer and hard drive- and I have an empty 1TB hard drive formatted in fat32 – if I am working with larger files on mac should I reformat the harddrive?? This is all new, sorry if it’s basic.

  You should always use a different drive for your media than the drive that holds FCP. It could be an external drive or an internal one. Your drive should be formatted Mac OS Extended not journaled. While the OS can talk to a FAT32 drive, it’s size-limited to 4GB which isn’t good for longer programs. If you intend to cut HD then you probably want a RAID drive for your media. Look at the ads to the sides of the forum or search the forum and you’ll find many good solutions.

  It’s always helpful to describe your system and what version of OS & FCP you’re using. What do you do want to do with your exported file?

  What is your intent for playback? If you’re taking this to the web or computer based playback then you’ll want to convert your anamorphic pixels to square pixels. If you’re dumping this sequence to tape or DVD then you’ll want to leave your anamorphic frame intact.

  The best way for you to get your sequence from FCP to Compressor (imo) is to create a QuickTime reference movie (same settings, audio/video, chapter markers if you have them). Take your reference file to Compressor.

  Compressor is easy to use once you get used to the interface and when you start understanding the intricacies of video codecs and compression.

  If this was easy just anyone could do it!
