  • Motion Templates… What’s Up?

    Ok… I know… But I have to post something about this….

I have all of the latest software and I have had a problem with pre-built Motion templates rendering in FCP using Photoshop logos. I have lots of graphics built for a show that we do using Motion, because the text in them will change from week to week and I can edit this in FCP.

Well, I have one template in particular that gives me a real headache. Its a credit roll using sponsor logos. All of the logos are Photoshop files (and I’ve tried TIFF files in their place). When I render this template in FCP, some of the logos at the beginning of the roll will blink or tear up like a video hit.

Its really bugging me…. Has ANYONE seen something like this?

Do you need to change the logos for every episode, or do they stay the same? If they stay the same, I suggest “baking” the Group of logos in Motion. In other words, just export out an animation file with alpha of just the logos – File > Export Selected – and import that movie file into the Motion project and save your template. This has worked for me when I get glitches in rendering Motion files in FCP.

Yes, in this case the logos do not change very often.

And I have tried “baking” it with the same results. I guess I should have also stated that exporting out of Motion has the same effect as rendering in FCP.

Here… Take a look at this Vimeo file showing the logo credit roll issue exported straight out of Motion.

These are all probably things you’ve already tried, but here goes…

Make sure that none of the image files are larger than 72 DPI. Just use Photoshop to change the dpi down to 72 while retaining the size of the image.

Export out one side, then export out the next side, then do a render that exports out both.

Try using Compressor instead of Motion to render out the files. I’ve had some luck with that.
